Who are Toast Ale?

Toast Ale is a social enterprise brewery. It brews planet-saving beer with surplus fresh bread and all profits go to charities fixing the food system. Food production is the biggest contributor to climate change but one third of all food is wasted. Toast's mission is to change that.

The London-based brewer is a B Corp Certified company and has been since March 2018. Since launching in 2016, Toast Ale have saved over 3 million slices of surplus bread and donated over £106k to charity and created heaps of positive impact.

They're also working to reduce their carbon footprint and have planned several actions to reduce emissions by approximately 72% and to get to Net Zero across their value chain by 2030. They believe the critical work for positive impact is in collective action.

Louisa Ziane said, “The verification process to becoming an Includability Committed Employer was really fantastic, giving me the opportunity to appraise all of the measures we've put in place at Toast to be an inclusive company and learn about other initiatives we can do to further improve. I'm looking forward to being part of the Includability Community to connect with others and share insight so that we can all do better."

What are Includability's pillar of inclusion areas?

Includability champions the following:

  • Environment and sustainability (E+S)

  • Ex-Military Support

All areas fall under the people, planet, purpose and profit framework of the Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) business model.

What is Includability’s 5 Star Verification process?

The 5 Star Verification Process was independently conducted by Includability Official Partners; Prosperah, Outliers Wellbeing, Flex Wellbeing, Unleashed, The HR Agency and Mental Health Charter CIC to ensure practices align with established definitions of an ‘Inclusive Workplace’.

Completing our 5 Star Verification process (or the 6 Star Verification Process for Includability Committed Recruitment Agencies) involves members completing a Company Commitment survey, having introductory, and possible follow-up, calls with our verification partners to assess where they are on their journey, making further commitments to engage with best practice in our pillar areas, and focussing each area into an overall sustainability strategy for their company which will raise the standard of their corporate social responsibility.
