About Us
B Lab UK is a non-profit established in 2015 to serve a growing community of UK-based companies using business as a force for good, including The Body Shop, The Guardian, innocent drinks and BrewDog. B Lab UK measures and verifies companies’ environmental and social performance using the B Impact Assessment, and ensures rigorous standards are met by all UK B Corps. Together with B Lab teams from around the world, we link a global network of socially and environmentally responsible businesses and promote positive, action-led change towards a new approach to business.
Mission
Our global vision is of an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy system for all people and the planet.
We’re building the B Corp movement to change our economic system - and to do so, we must change the rules of the game. B Lab creates standards, policies, tools, and programmes that shift the behaviour, culture, and structure of capitalism. We mobilise the B Corp community towards collective action to address society’s most critical challenges.
By harnessing the power of business, B Lab positively impacts 150 industries in 74 countries, helping businesses to balance profit with purpose. Together, we are shifting our economic system from profiting only the few to benefiting all, from concentrating wealth and power to ensuring equity, from extraction to regeneration, and from prioritising individualism to embracing interdependence.
Company Culture and Values
B Lab UK places team culture at the heart of what we do. It is vital for the attraction and retention of brilliant people to the organisation, and it is also crucial to create a working environment that allows each team member to be themselves, to do their best work, and to have a good time while working hard to pursue our mission.
Our values are designed to ensure that this shared mission is the foundation of a brilliant working culture:
Ambition
We seek to accomplish a great deal by harnessing business as a force for good and advocating for economic systems change. We will always be a small team compared to this huge ambition, and so we have the mandate and the drive to quickly respond to major developments and challenges; boldly launch new initiatives to further our mission; and experiment with innovative approaches.
Collaboration
We cannot achieve our objectives by working alone. Our ambitions require teamwork – we ask for help when it’s needed and we draw upon each other’s skills and views whenever we can. We actively look to foster collaboration externally, exchanging ideas and building knowledge within the B Corp community and creating new relationships and partnerships outside it.
Balance
The work required to achieve our ambitions must always be balanced with our individual and collective health and wellbeing. When it comes to work-life balance we will always look to set an example through policies, practices and culture. Even though our systems change mission is a serious and urgent effort, we will approach our work with a spirit of optimism and good humour, and fun.
Inclusion
We are led by our global vision to create an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system for all people and the planet. We therefore embrace diversity - of background, of identity, of thought - as it makes us stronger and better able to realise this vision. We also strive to raise up the voices of those who are most adversely affected by our broken economic system and work to create an inclusive environment within the team and the B Corp community that allows everyone to feel safe, appreciated and empowered.
Integrity
We are committed to our values and to our work with integrity, ensuring that our actions match our words. Our strategies and programming are based on knowledge and research, incorporating the best practices and experiences of our community and beyond. We recognise that as individuals and as an organisation we operate from a position of trust and credibility, and that consistency and integrity are essential to maintain this privilege.
